About

A working group, not a course.

AI Lab for Accountants is a working group of accountants using AI to save real hours, raise the level of service they give clients, and modernize how their firms work.

Built for CPAs, EAs, bookkeepers, and firm owners in tax, bookkeeping, or advisory at firms with 1 to 50 people, past "what is AI" and into building.

Free account: newsletter and public tools. Membership: $29/month, or $24/seat for teams. The weekly call, Slack, and the Vault.

What happens in the Lab

  • The weekly call

Every Wednesday at 2 PM Eastern. Members bring what they are building or stuck on, and the group works through it live.

  • Answers

Every real question asked on a call, with the answer the group gave, linked to the moment in the recording.

  • The Vault

Recorded builds, prompts, skills, and tools members made in the room, ready to reuse.

  • Slack

The private community between calls: help when you are stuck, and proof of what other firms shipped.

  • The Tool Safety Index

Can you put client data in it? We read the binding terms of 220+ vendors so you do not have to.

  • Research

The State of AI in Accounting Firms: what 437 practitioners told us about how AI is actually used.

Who runs it

Run by CPAs Rebecca Driscoll (Founder) and Charlie Barmore (Co-lead). Both still do the work in their own firms.

The short story

Rebecca started the Lab because of what she kept seeing in the profession: the burnout, the workload, the people who love this work being worn down by it. Accountants who actually use AI, rather than collect ideas about it, get real time back. Charlie joined to co-lead it as the practitioner-builder: a CPA using Claude and Claude Code in his own practice and building real tools with it.

The Lab is a room of practicing accountants. It is not open to vendors, recruiters, or sales. Everything in it is built to be defensible: AI is never presented as a source of law, and client data never goes anywhere the firm cannot stand behind.
