What is the primary purpose of the 'Open Accountants' platform/project?

32:18From the May 20 call · OpenAccountants Skills, MCP Servers for QBO, and Token Strategy

The primary purpose of Open Accountants is not to have accountants review tax returns directly on the platform. Instead, it's to write and maintain the rules (skills) with which language models compute tax returns, because currently LLMs are doing tax computations very badly. Contributors can either write these rules anonymously and have them published, or write them publicly and be credited as the firm responsible for maintaining them (e.g., being known as the authoritative source for how something should be handled in a given state like Virginia). Reviewing actual returns is described as just a possible downstream result if someone wants an accountant to check their return, not the platform's core function. The stated goal is to help move the accounting industry into the age of AI safely.
