How can I use Claude to act like a staff accountant that works inside my actual accounting systems?

The idea is to get Claude connected to all the systems you use, ideally through API connections (MCP servers) rather than something like a Chrome extension co-worker tool, which is slower and less secure and carries prompt injection risk. Once connected via custom MCP servers to tools like QuickBooks, a time-tracking tool, and other practice software, you can build reusable 'skills' (e.g., a monthly close skill) that Claude executes using that live data access. The suggested mental model: think of Claude like a new accountant you're onboarding. Just as you'd give a new hire training documents and SOPs so they understand context, you should build SOPs for Claude describing how each task should be done. Approaching it this way makes the buildout feel less overwhelming, since you're really just documenting your processes the way you would for a human employee, then giving Claude the same system access you'd give that employee.
