Has anyone built something useful combining AI with tax workpapers?

Another tried a simpler approach: took their own tax documents, ran them through a document/data extraction tool, and had it populate a free Excel 1040 template — and said it "worked perfectly," pulling data from sources like a client portal and pre-prep documents. They noted they hadn't vetted the security implications but confirmed functionally it worked. A separate member noted that off-the-shelf tax workpaper tools (naming Sovaren/Stanford Tax type products) often produce workpapers that are less clear than a firm's own custom-built format refined over decades, reinforcing the appeal of building your own with AI.
